POPPLET - GROUP 4

- This studio lesson related to the given Big Idea of celebrations, as well as identity. I created a celebration of a connection that was made to my identity. In this situation I made a finger puppet representing some aspects of Tanzania, a trip I will be taking in a few weeks. Tanzania's flag is green, yellow, and blue. The beads also reminded me of African jewelry and the feathers represent my hair. Even before I leave for Tanzania, it is becoming such an important and big aspect of my life. It is truly going to be a life changing experience and I cannot wait to see what changes the trips celebrations make to my identity while I am there and after I return.
- I might employ this visual art integration studio lesson in my classroom by having the students share their uniqueness. This could be done by creating their own finger puppet that shows their identity and a celebration they share with their family. This could be integrated with literacy because there are numerous books that talk about uniqueness and individuality that could be related to this lesson. Students could also do a writing piece about what they created and the background reasons for why they did that.

- This studio lesson related to the big idea of celebrations because it is a magazine cover and shows an event that has happened. I chose to have my cover represent world peace because of the recent events that have happened in our country, like the Boston Marathon tragedy. These events make me question and wonder why everyone does not get along. It upsets me and makes me think of world peace and how the world should celebrate more positive events, rather than hurting each other and fighting.
- I might employ this visual art integration studio lesson in my own classroom by doing a social action project on classroom peace and working together. I want my students to have a strong classroom community where they will all get along and try and be nice to each other 99% of the time. I do not want them to fight and hurt each others feelings. A lesson I could teach is the bucket fillers lesson. There is a book which would contain literacy and I would encourage students to fill each others buckets with positive comments.

- This studio lesson relates to the big idea of celebrations because it celebrates my own artistic identity. This piece was an artist choice, meaning that I got to choose my own mediums and create my own project of what ever I wanted to choose. Miriam Schapiro inspired me to use yarn in my artwork. I celebrated this art by reflecting on my very own dreams and how I am going to Africa and graduating next year. As I look at this piece, now hung up in my bedroom, it brings me great joy and passion to succeed now and in the future.
- I might employ this visual art integration lesson in my own classroom by allowing students to celebrate their own identity through a celebration of their life. I chose to do a dreamcatcher that would inspire me to reach for my goals and dreams whenever I were to look at this dreamcatcher. This was also the lesson I chose to do for my unit plan that had the big idea of Dreams. I want this artwork to serve as an inspirational piece for students. It also focuses on figurative meanings rather than literal. I mean that the lesson is not just to stop bad dreams during sleep, but to also inspire students to reach for their dreams and try their very hardest.
